While getting a new EV, many would want to get the most affordable option. EV sales have seen a surge in volumes being sold globally, and Tesla and BYD have been pioneers in selling the highest number of electric cars across the globe. What is left to find is which one is actually better in real life BYD vs Tesla. An EV commuter has to face the hardship of open and dusty roads, and long distance interstate travel. So which brand actually emerges victorious?
Teslas still dominate the EV market, but many are turning to Chinese EV manufacturers like BYD who are offering affordable EV options. But there are problems associated with BYD, like finding a dedicated BYD charging station is still a matter of concern, while its easier to find a Tesla charging station, the cables used in such charging stations do not specifically cater to BYD cars.
Not all BYD cars are compatible with Teslas superchargers. So if you are on a long trip, you might feel more confident in a Tesla because of better charging network. BYDs also are prone to “onboard navigation” problems. The navigation has a tendency to guide you to charging stations that are not built yet.
Then there are issues related to the engineering of the BYD cars, as such the glass roof of the BYD does a lot for scenic routes, but does not keep you away from scorching heat. Also, BYDs claimed range tends to drop fast while over speeding, and this means you will need to recharge it more often. So BYDs tend to be better off in towns rather than interstate travel. So in the battle for BYD vs Tesla, BYD will appeal more to an urban commuter, and Tesla can cope better with interstate travel.
