The concept of sustainability is an embedded ideology in the political economy of every nation. This is especially true in transportation. Sustainable transportation defines those modes of travel that are ecological, economically viable, and energy efficient. These objectives help in alleviating greenhouse gas emissions and lowering air pollution and safeguarding natural resources.
In this contemporary society that is very proactive in promoting clean sustainable transportation, one very common example is the electric vehicles (EVs). The electric cars use an electric power source thus the need to use fuel such as diesel or gas is greatly minimized. The carbon-printed progress is also attributed to the fact that there was a need for more advanced batteries in vehicles as individuals switched to electric cars.
Also on the rise is an inclination of integrating some’ feet’ into one’s commute often referred to as walking and cycling the greenest of all transport options. By fighting car dependency for short trips, it will be less polluted and healthier. Many countries and cities around the world are implementing such measures by building cycling paths, pedestrian ways and parks that encourage the use of alternative means of transport by the people.
Sustainable transportation ensures utilization of available public transport systems. Electric or hybrid buses, trams and trains can accommodate a big population while polluting the environment less than when people use individual cars. The other effective leadership approach towards the control of transport congestion is the enhancement and expansion of the public transit systems.
Apart from that, a car or van-sharing, ride-sharing applications, and bike-sharing services are shared mobility solutions that endorse users of the services that are advanced in sustainable transportation. Such systems, save not just energy but road as well.
