ICE from Volvo isn’t doing tremendously well in sales figures, but the increased sales of electrified models like EVs and hybrids came in as a pleasant respite. Besides Volvo, other brands like – Honda, Hyundai, and Kia noticed similar patterns. In the auto industry hybrids and EVs are gaining traction. For instance, Volvo recorded monthly sales of 10,420 units which was 2.1% lower than that of August 2023. As the overall sales tapered, sales of electrified vehicles skyrocketed. The Swedish manufacturer delivered 47.1% more hybrids and EVs last month.
Hybrids and EVs now account for 37.7% of Volvo’s overall sales in the U.S. The all-electric EX90 is yet to arrive in car dealerships and it will be the brand’s first product to be built from the ground up to be an EV. Expect the EX90 to be a three-row offering from Volvo, which has been a successful segment for the brand Volvo. It was initially the XC90 that relaunched the brand and brought styling and interior design themes that created a lot of buzz in the industry. The Volvo XC90 remains the undisputed champion with 2,979 units sold last month. It was widely speculated that the EX90 would replace the XC90, but slower-than-expected EV sales growth and the EX90’s teething issues delayed plans.
Volvo recently announced that the XC90 is getting a facelift and that the hybrid and ICE three-row are taking shape in the flesh. Auto enthusiasts across the world have labeled the EX90 as a stellar product and Volvo deserves credit for bringing in plug-in hybrids and EVs. Every Volvo model on sale comes with a PHEV or EV variant and the three-row segment comes in both PHEV and EV. Electric alternatives to the S90 and XC 60 are down the pipeline and in total we are expecting the ES90, EX90, and EX60 to come soon.
