BMW iX Introduction:
The BMW iX takes the company one step ahead in its electrification strategy. BMW iX offers space similar to the BMW X5. Powered by two motors, there is ample power as the All-wheel-Drive BMW iX churns out 516-hp in the xDrive50 and 610-hp in the M60. The battery pack also delivers a healthy range of close to 300 miles per charge. The iX gets a spacious interior with a futuristic design. The car gets BMW’s iDrive infotainment system which can be controlled via a rotary knob on the center console. The iX will directly compete against the likes of the Audi e-Tron, Tesla Model X, and the upcoming Fisker Ocean and Rivian R1S.
BMW iX Performance:
There are two variants of iX on offer. The xDrive50 comes powered by a pair of electric motors that produce 516 hp. It gets all-wheel-drive as standard. This pushes the iX from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds. The other variant M60 produces 610 hp which pushes the car from 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds. The entry-level xDrive 50 gets an adjustable air suspension and a rear-wheel steering system as optional. The M60 variant gets all this as standard. First impressions, the car has plenty of power, is agile, offers a smooth ride, and is energy efficient.
Battery:
The iX houses a large 106.3 kWh battery pack which has an expected range of just over 300 miles on a single charge. There is the option of DC fast charging, which charges the iX from 10% to 80% in just 35 minutes.
Interior:
Dimensionally similar to the BMW X5 crossover, the iX offers similar passenger and cargo space. The cabin carries a simple yet futuristic design and has a lot of high-tech elements which include a large curved touchscreen instrument panel and hexagonal shaped steering. The car gets a large panoramic sunroof that gets electrochromic shading as an option. The EV also gets heated powered front seats and integrated speakers for the stereo system. The car comes with both faux leather and genuine leather upholsteries. BMW also offers a textile seat fabric option that uses microfiber cloth.
Features:
The car gets a next-generation infotainment interface which is called the iDrive 8. This software allows for customization of menus, and graphics. It also gets a voice-activated assistant. The car gets a large 14.9-inch infotainment display and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. The iX gets Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard, and the car also gets a Wi-Fi hotspot with a 5G cellular connection. The car gets an 18-speaker Harman/Kardon stereo system as standard. As an option, you can opt for the 30-speaker Bowers & Wilkins setup.
Safety:
BMW offers a comprehensive set of standard driver-assistance features. The car gets parking sensors, autonomous emergency braking, automatic high beam headlamps, and lane-keeping assist systems. The key features found on the EV include- automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, Available adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode.
