It has officially been confirmed that BMW will have an electric M performance model. It will be unveiled in 2021, and it will bring a whole new dynamism of distinctive M feeling.
- The electric BMW M car will be the derivative of the i4 electric sedan.
- I4 M expected to be an ‘M lite’ model similar to an M340i
- M performance variant of electric iX SUV also on the cards.
The German carmaker has confirmed that an electric M Performance model will be released. It is still unclear which electric model will get the M derivative; the rumor is that the M-badge will be given to BMW’s i4-electric sedan.
Unlike the new M3 and M4, the i4 M is going to be an ‘M-lite’ model. It won’t be a fully-fledged M product, like the current M340i.
The standard i4 is set to be unveiled in the coming months. The sales in global markets are expected to start by the end of the year.
Earlier on, BMW confirmed in 2019, that its new model will feature a 530hp powertrain. The car can do a 0-100 in 4 seconds. It is expected to have a top speed of 201 km/h and will have a range of 595 km. It falls short of a 0-100 time which Tesla Model 3 manages in 3.1 seconds. So it is quite clear that BMW’s M division will give the upcoming i4 electric sedan an M performance variant.
