Daimler has revealed details of its concept which supposedly has a range of over 1000 km on a single charge. The concept is an EV that also carries solar tech on its roof. The German automotive giant says, its concept – the Vision EQXX has 117 roof-based solar cells. The idea is that the solar cells will boost the car’s range.

The interior of the vehicle has an alternative called – Mylo. Mylo is produced using mycelium, which Daimler described as being “the underground rootlike structure of mushrooms.” It is a bio-based material that is made primarily from renewable ingredients. Other materials being used are a cactus-based biomaterial called – Deserttex and carpets made from bamboo fiber.

Markus Schafer, Daimler’s chief technology officer said – the technology program behind the concept vehicle would “define and enable future Mercedes-Benz models and features.” The revelation comes at a time when there is range anxiety associated with EV’s. Meanwhile, EV giant Tesla says that the Model S Plaid has an estimated range of 396 miles. Another EV manufacturer Lucid said that its Air Dream Edition Range has an official EPA rating of 520 miles.

The Vision EQXX is one of many latest vehicles to use different materials in their vehicles. Volvo earlier announced that it wishes to go leather-free by 2030, Volvo also has plans to use a quarter of its materials to be sourced from recycled and bio-based materials by 2025. Tesla already came up with the Model 3 in 2019 that did not feature any leather. Porsche also offers a leather-free option on the electric Taycan.
